In this modern era of the Church there is much confusion about the gospel. Some have come to believe it is a message about Jesus Christ; some believe it is a dual gospel about Jesus Christ and the kingdom of God; and some believe it is the complete teaching of the Bible covering every aspect of God's word. Mr. Armstrong taught that you must understand what the true gospel is if you are to be saved. What is that gospel? Here is the plain teaching from God's late apostle explaining the true gospel: From his 1982 article: Exciting News - Peace is on the Way! "Few seem to have understood the purpose of either Christ's coming to earth more than 1,900 years ago or his prophesied Second Coming, now imminent". "He came the first time as a divine messenger, bearing a message from God. That message was the good news (gospel) of the kingdom of God--a future world government." "That message was Christ's gospel. In other words, it was the true gospel of Jesus Christ--the very gospel he commissioned all New Testament ministers to preach to all the world throughout this age. Yet almost universally that true gospel message is rejected today, and men have, as prophesied, turned to another gospel--a gospel about a different Jesus, certainly not the same Jesus described so vividly in the New Testament. Yes, it was Jesus Christ who first proclaimed to the world the idea of world peace through a future world government." From his last Coworker Letter dated January, 1986: "Jesus Christ sent forth the first apostles to the small world of that day centered around the Mediterranean Sea. In 20 years there was violent controversy over whether the gospel to be proclaimed was a gospel ABOUT Christ, or the gospel OF Christ. For nearly 1,900 years Christ's Gospel of the Kingdom of God was thereafter NOT PROCLAIMED to the world. But Jesus had said, "THIS gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world, for a witness unto ALL NATIONS, and then shall the end (of this world) come." "The tithes and offerings of this small church began the work of proclaiming 1,900 years later the Gospel of the Kingdom -- the only true Gospel -- throughout Europe after it had gone forth for 19 years over the United States and Canada." "It is now true that this Gospel has been proclaimed within EVERY nation on earth by the ..........Church of God. No other church has proclaimed this true gospel at all!" |
